First Fawning in the Phoenix Park

by paul on June 10, 2011

An update from our filming of City Wild.

We follow two of the rangers accompanying a group of University College Dublin staff and students as they carry out the first fawning of the season. June and July is the time when Fallow Deer Fawns are born and they are inspected and tagged to monitor their health and numbers. The group wears gloves so as not to leave their scent on the new-borns and prevent their mothers from finding them.
